ABCs

If any of you are familiar with the Friends episode where Phoebe tries to teach Joey french, then you'll have a pretty good idea of what the following dialogue between Bella and Andrew looked like tonight after dinner.

Andrew: say "a b c"
Bella: a e c b
Andrew: no, say "a b c"
Bella: a c c

(repeat twenty times)

Andrew: say "a"
Bella: a
Andrew: say "b"
Bella: b
Andrew: say "c"
Bella: c
Andrew: say "a b c"
Bella: A C B C! Yaayyyyy!!
Andrew (shaking head): no. Say "a b c"

(repeat ten times)

(now repeat the first round another ten times)

Andrew: say "a b c"
Bella: a c d c
Andrew: say "a"
Bella: K!

(at this point, mom ends up on the floor howling with laughter and dad is trying his darndest to keep a straight face)

Continue this for about fifteen straight minutes and you get a feel for how it all went.

Christmas Pictures

This year we were blessed with a white Christmas, and it looks as though we'll be having a white New Year too!

Here's Bella helping Auntie Am open her new printer...

Here she is trying to read her new book while Papa opens his presents next to her...

B's newest thing is snuggling, particularly with her dolls. She has gotten more snuggly with us, but she has really turned it up a notch when it comes to playing mommy and loving on her dolls. This first picture is Christmas morning, snuggling with her new bear in her new blanket. The second picture is Christmas night, tucking her new baby in under her new quilt (from Grandma of course) and giving her a little squeeze goodnight. What a sweetie.

Crayola Artistry with Dad

One of Bella's favorite things to do now is color. The other night, she and Papa sat down and pulled out the box of markers. Bella, of course, viewed the markers as chapstick and proceeded to make her lips grey.

Coloring

Merry Christmas Eve! But we'll get to those photos later. Right now I want to show you the result of 15 minutes of free reign with a box of Crayola markers (a birthday gift from Grandma Bonnie).

Learning the Good Stuff

Yesterday was a particularly entertaining day for Little B, so I thought I'd pass on a few little stories.

*************

The whole 'no touch' concept is really sinking in with Bella lately. We walk through the store and she points at everything and says "No touch!" and we laugh and confirm. She's gone so far as to play mommy to her toys and has taken to teaching them not to touch things as well.

Yesterday, I was sitting on the couch and I was touching a little berry topiary that we have, and Bella looked at me, looked at me touching the topiary, and said "No touch!" in a very authoritative little two-year-old voice. I laughed to myself, and stopped touching it, wondering what would happen next. She wandered around for a minute saying "Spoon?" until she found a wooden spoon from her little cooking set, at which point she said "Good girl," and walked over to me. She then took my hand (the hand that had touched the topiary) and gave it a few little whacks with the wooden spoon. After I failed miserably at my attempts to stifle laughter, I pulled her up on my lap and explained that she was not to discipline mom or dad, but that we were to discipline her. She then swatted her own hand with the spoon, and I failed miserably again at the straight face. So I explained to her that only mom and dad were to discipline her, and she was only allowed to discipline her dolls if she must.

A few minutes later, she found her little pink dragon ("Esmerelda"), and proceeded to gently smack Ezzy's little paw with the tip of the spoon and say "No touch. Good girl!" and then she gave her a little kiss. I of course thought that this was interrupt-dad-at-work-worthy and proceeded to call Papa and laughed my way all through the story again.

We were very pleased and humbled to note that she understood that the kiss and hug at the end of the discipline is as important as the swatting at the beginning.

*************

On a slightly lighter note, we were walking through the mall parking lot yesterday, and Bella saw a police car with its lights on. She looked at it, pointed, and said, "Uh-Oh!". If it wasn't obvious before, it is quite apparent now that she is definitely a Becker.

The Second Birthday

Here are the pics from Bella's various birthday celebrations. There were really only two - the one with just us here on her birthday, and then the big shebang today with everybody. She got a truckload of stuff, and did surprisingly well for having such an audience and so little sleep! So here we go...

The waiting...

The first cake (on her real birthday)...

The presents...

The second cake (today)...

The conversation (on the phone with grandpa in Iowa)...

The opening (sitting in the little rocking chair that Great Grandma and Grandpa gave her!)...

Happy Birthday!

Today Little Bella turns two. So far she has opened her new little play stove and a supercool magnadoodle. Her party is on Sunday, so we'll post pictures then, but for now you can marvel at how much she's changed!

Li'l cutie

We had family pictures taken a few weeks ago. Turns out that Lella is the only decent looking one in the group.

Catching up to do!

Sorry for the long absence - December is a busy month for us! Here's some pictures to catch you all up on the goings on of Little Bella B.

We decorated Christmas cookies sometime last week. We wanted Lella to get a chance to help, especially with the sprinkles. I put some in a small cup for her so that she could pinch out bits and put them on the frosted cookies. She, of course, picked up the cup and dumped the sprinkles on the cookie to form a mound, and then proceeded to draw in it with her finger. Brilliant. Here's the cookie and the kiddo enjoying the cookie:

We held off on getting our Christmas tree this year because we wanted to fit everyone in comfortably for Thanksgiving. So we got the tree the day after Thanksgiving instead of the day before. B was spending the night at the grandparents' (so we could hit all the black friday deals bright and early!), so she was quite interested to see this great green monstrosity in our living room when she got home!

As a true child, Lella loves the snow. Whenever she sees snow she says, "Snow! Awesome!". Now that the snow has melted, she looks outside and says "All gone snow." It's all very cute. Here she is watching one of our first snowfalls.

As a true girl, Lella loves shopping. She finds shopping bags and goes 'shopping' around the house. This generally involves finding things and putting them in the bag and walking around. Here are the results of one of her shopping trips:

And, last but not least, Papa got a new laptop. Wanting to be just like dad, Lella had me pull out my old laptop for her so that she could sit on the couch and 'play computers' with dad. Too cute.
